weird dude

So today at lunch I had to run off to go get my car smog-checked.. as you do.. and I quickly went to grab lunch at the local chinese place.  I just wanted to sit and eat in peace, but when I went in all the tables except one were taken.

The hostess looked at me and the guy behind me and said “you two sit together?”

We both looked at each other and then back at her and said “no, we’re alone.”  She replied “yes, but only one table.  You sit together?”

So I shrugged and said “sure.”

We sat at a table together and started looking at our menus.  I smiled at him & he suddenly stood up and walked to the front of the restaurant.  The lady then came and took my order & picked up his menu & napkin.

I figured that he decided to just go eat elsewhere or something, but then 2 minutes later she sat him at a table 2 feet away from me.

I thought.. wow.. he was so afraid to meet someone new.  What if we had happened to have an amazing conversation & we both learned something from it?

It’s a shame, really.

There's a logical explanation… he must have recognized you once he sat down, felt star-struck and tongue-tied, then panicked and made a quick exit. Sounds like something I would do, actually. (But it wasn't me.)

Neh, sometimes you can't blame people. You will be surprised that most of the people on my side of the world are usually like that. Many just find the idea of talking to strangers….strange. But we are asian after all.

That is just so sad. The world is now closing its ears and closing its eyes to anything it doesn't know or is foreign to it. Ah well, who needs progress! 🙂
