Back to wordpress?

With the new update to wordpress 2.5, I’m thinking that instead of going to drupal (my previous plan), I might just stick with wordpress and bbpress for the forums.

Of course, bbpress will have to release the newest version (0.9) so it’s compatible with the current version of wordpress.. but hopefully they’ll do that soon and I’ll be able to upgrade.

It’ll be nice to get away from joomla/smf and have something smaller, faster, and easier to work with.

In the meantime, here’s a photo.

    Hi Jason,
congrats on Madagascar 2! I havent had a chance to get out and see it yet, but will in the next few days. Anyways, I noticed that you have been going back and forth on CMS's, and I personally have looked at drupal (I got frusterated with their intricate module dependancies) and joomla (decent but complex back end). I recently found another opensource CMS called Silverstripe which i am now using for several websites, and it is really a good system, very clean and easy to use back end, and very customizable. They are actually a new zealand company, and offer great support too.

just wanted to let you know about it. I've learned quite a bit from your masterclasses and just wanted to offer some advice where i can.

thanks again for all your great lessons.

    Heya chris!

I've been checkin out silverstripe for a while now & it looks very cool! I think I've come to the realization that even though I would love to continue jonhandhisdog.com and the forum & everything, with my new job as head of character animation for mastermind, 2 kids, 2 dogs. a house and a lovely wife.. I just don't have the energy to keep the site up and running. I'm more likely to be able to handle blogging at the moment and that's about it..

but in the future, I may go back to silverstripe if I suddenly get more time. 🙂

    Hi jason,
I completely understand where you are coming from. I dont have any kids, but i also have a wife, a new house, and 2 dogs (labs), so life gets busy. Silverstripe is really in their infancy, so some of their modules (specifically their forum module) are somewhat underdeveloped, but i think they are due to release new versions somewhat soon. what i really love is that their code is incredibly organized, they have a great backend, and have sort of written a 'middleware' api that is incredibly easy to use and customize. i'm sure you know html, and for many things, you just need to include 1 line of code to include pretty complex stuff. i definitely recommend this if you find time to rebuild things. anyways, if you need any help with this system in the future, please let me know. I have learned so much from everything you've done that i'd love to be able to help you out for a change.

    thanks again for great stuff.
